Mediaspaces

The reception desk was created as a custom design to provide a unique curved front and a reduced depth to maximize the space. A gate was added to limit outside traffic into the school, due to covers with COVID19.

Behind the reception desk, a Rubix storage unit was added with a custom curved top to match that of the desk. Allowing the user to interact with guests/staff on either side and to create a barrier between student and teacher traffic.

The lobby seating consists of Engage lounge seating with a Forum Coffee table. A Gizmo bench sits off to the side for those making a quick stop.

The Nomad desk and Rubix storage unit are used as the "hub" or central focus of the space. Allowing staff to see all areas in use and be readily available for students.

Shelving lines the perimeter of the space. Additional shelving was added to divide the 4 zones and provide a barrier between each. Allowing for simultaneous work within the same space. Here we have a small group work area including a Rockford Table and Hannah chairs.

This Quiet Reading Space allows for comfy lounge seating near the staff.

Full Time Ottomans are placed on the ends of shelving runs for those making a quick stop to check out their book selection.

The Classroom Zone Consists Rockford Flair tables and Hannah chairs. The mobile tables are easily reconfigured for small/large group work.

This Eclipse table and Push Pop Stools are near power sources and readily available to use as a technology bar where students may use library technology devices.

Ad LIb Riser seating is the perfect multi-use space in this Commons Zone. When not in use for classroom instruction, students may lounge upon them to read, collaborate, or study alone.

Customer requirements and requests:

Centering the circulation desk in the middle of the room. Considering the desk as the origin and the space around the center as the four quadrants in which activity can happen.

Appropriate furniture for small children.
A variety of seating options
Reading for pleasure can be down with low, soft seating on the ground.
Arts and crafts and collaborating on work needs a table or desk-like space.
Cozy yet visible spaces for students to read.
Students like to be in corners and under tables to lounge.
Low shelving for books all around the perimeter of the room agains all walls.
Books should not be shelved too high for students to reach.
Lots of space to display new books.
Library should consider using stand alone bookshelves that can be moved around.

Thoughts from staff of library:

Students enjoy sitting at a technology bar of sorts on stools.
A stepped seating area for library time and casual reading when not in use for class.

Peak library use is during snack and lunch. Many students want to read quietly; others wasn't to do arts and crafts. Space should accommodate groups of students wanting to do both simultaneously.
